Jim Bolton Scholarship Fund for Tibetan People Was established at the Madison Area Technical College (MATC).
The scholarship fund is off to a good start, although much fund raising work (including grant writing) remains to be done.
At this point in time we have raised enough money to offer one scholarship to a Tibetan student who would like to
complete an Associate Degree.
In order to qualify for this scholarship, an applicant must first complete one semester ( at least 12 credits) toward
an Associate Degree, and be a student in "good standing". Other qualifications include living in Wisconsin, possessing
a Tibetan Green Book and demonstrating financial need.
The successful applicant will receive $400 toward tuition each semester for a maximum of three semesters.
The scholarship will not pay for the first semester.
We also hope to offer a limited number of smaller scholarship for certificate courses. CNA courses, however, will
not qualify for this fund because there are currently other sources (such as the CNA Alliance) that will pay for
the CNA training.
When the final details of the scholarship are worked-out, a letter will be sent to every member of the Tibetan
community which will explain how to apply for a scholarship.
We are also setting aside a portion of the money raised to create an endowment fund. The purpose an endowment fund.
The purpose of an endowment is to build-up a sufficient amount of money in an account so that the interest from it will
be enough to fund more scholarship.
While we are only able to offer one associate Degree scholarship this year, we hope that with grant writing, fund
raising and development of the endowment fund, we will be able to provide more scholarship in the future.
