Walk For Tibet:
Indiana Tibetan Association and RTYC-MN are putting together a walk for Tibet this summer. The walk begins from Independence Hall in Philadelphia on July 4 and ends at China's Embassy in Washington, DC on July 13. The Tibetan Associations in these two cities will help with local logistics.
We need need help from the Wisconsin Tibetan Association to assure that this walk is a success. We expect about 15-20 Tibetans and others to walk the entire time. Here is a list of potential ways your Association and members can help.
1. Publish an announcement of the Walk in your Association newsletter. Send an email to your membership about this walk.
2. Provide a link to the walk on your website if you have one.
3. Recruit Tibetan walkers.
4. Find sponsors for Tibetan walkers or raise funds to support these walkers. The core group of walkers will be about 15-20 people. Any Tibetans that could be sponsored would be appreciated. We estimate that it will cost about $500 to sponsor/support a walker. This includes, for instance, the cost of renting a van, fuel, food, and other living expenses.
5. Find sponsors of meals for the walkers each day ($10 per walker or $200 for all the walkers each day).
6. Find sponsors of the van fuel for each day ($50/day)
7. Find individuals who will contribute $5 for each day of the walk ($50 total).
8. Find individuals who will contribute $1 (U.S. currency) for each mile of the walk or $150 (150 miles) to cover all the miles!
9. Have your Association financially contribute any amount to the Walk. Please note that the operating budget is $10,000. Organize a fund raising event to contribute to this budget.
Many of our walkers will take time off from work and leave their families, and many are losing money to walk. ITIM cannot ask these individuals to pay for their own food, to pay for the gas for the van, etc.
For your information, ITIM is a volunteer organization. We have no paid staff. We rely on donations to support all our projects. Donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by U.S. law.
